I am so interested in applying social enterprise, market strategies to rescue. We're doing it in Sacramento, promoting animals in partnership with people in order to leverage adoptions and strengthen the animal human bond. We have to think outside of the box and run ourselves like a business to compete against backyard breeders, puppymills and grab a piece of the Petsmart 50 billion dollar a year animal industry. Our shelter pets die while Petsmart makes money off of the lucky ones that have homes. Competition time looms ahead. Eileen Gillis, Packsrescue.com

I have a hard time consuming the idea of Breed Specific Legislation. My dog's heritage would leave it open to being taken and killed. Now for the insane part; this dog is also a Registered Service Dog! I cannot leave my house without her. Yet, God forbid if it got out that she was what her breed heritage is. I want to definitely agree with whoever called it descrimination. I've had mine spayed, microchipped, current vaccinations; everything but a license. I'm afraid to let anyone know that she exists. Is this crazy or what! I've signed every petition about BSL and just don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. When is going to stop? Will President Obama ever intervene in this issue? It seems with all other pressing issues to tackle, where is there room for us to fit in? If I lose my dog, it's my life that's affected. I will be more of a shut in than I am now. I need her more than she needs me. It wasn't until I just wrote this that I see how serious this issue is. I know it sounds silly but my dog loves hamsters and cats. She has both for her pack mates. A neighbor has a Boston Terrier who is her best outside friend. I had to give her a real lame name to draw attention away from her. Just for arguements sake, let's call her poopsie. How scary would a dog with the name of poopsie be? I love and need her so much that I would leave the State that I call home and I never thought I would ever have to say that. Thank you for being patient and reading this. I've never had the opportunity to say these things let alone think them.

The amendments to 2525 also create huge LOOPHOLES that will allow breeders to apply for 3 year plus waivers to avoid implementing ANY changes.

Also the Canine Health Board will be establishing all of the key ingredients the PA House passed such as temperature, lighting, humidity and may also change FLOORING (there is no solid flooring) and exercise.

Val,

Please tell your readers to visit www.savingpuppies.com to contact all PA Senators at one time to let them know we don't want a watered-down version of House Bill 2525. This is a petition with a letter that will be sent out immediately to all of our Senators immediately.

Hopefully all of us who sign this petition can make a difference in the vote that will hopefully occur this week in the Senate. You can visit the website to learn more. Let our voices be heard!

Thank you. ..Tina

Some lovely dogs there. Does anyone have stories about unusual foods that their pets enjoy (that are not bad for them of course)? Come and share and read about chickens that love spaghetti at www.discoverunearthed.wordpress.com

[...] Aaron Burkholder’s kennel license, the permit that allows him to commercially breed dogs at Burkholder Farm Kennels, has been revoked. This action was taken by the state after Burkholder was charged with 9 counts of animal cruelty for failure to properly care for dogs and puppies in his operation.
I think EZBake kind of missed the point, though as an English major I am thankful for the spelling correction. (Although technically I was correct in typing it that way, since I was quoting. Most appropriate would be "back-water [sic].")

I am Pennsylvania born and raised, thank you very much. But we do have to recognize that our state does have such a reputation, and at least in this case, we are resisting important progress.

And by the way, I do listen to indie rock and watch arty cinema, but I can also shoot a gun and milk a goat. Sorry cows, I learned on little udders. And no, I don't own a gun nor do I ever want to, but knowledge has its advantages.
